In memory of my daughter, I created a library in inner-city Lexington, KY called "The Luna Library.” In her honor, we collect and distribute children's books that are K-12 with an African American history or Black character focus. One of the biggest complaints about school systems is the lack of book diversity in lesson plans and libraries. We want this library to be an alternative for African American parents looking for relatable books for their children. We also believe such books can be impactful for students of all races! With the social unrest of 2020, we've seen a lot of allies to the black cause search for context and knowledge to understand the stories of the African American experience in this country. There is no better source of knowledge about different cultural backgrounds than literature! We hope that this library can be a healing agent in our community! We take applications for FREE books every month from February to August. We believe this program can help bridge the reading gap during the summer months.
