300 Students at Tates Creek Middle Have Downloaded & Are Using the New Anti-Drug FEND App!
On Friday, January 24th, hip hop artist Devine Carama, performed and presented to over 800 middle school students at Tates Creek Middle School to help promote the new anti-drug phone app, FEND, which stands for Full Energy No Drugs! It's an incentive based app with gamification that educates youth on the impacts of opioid use and provides resources for young people experiencing trauma or depression. Check out Devine's thoughts on his visit below:
"As a new brand ambassador and community coordinator for the Lexington cohort of the FEND Movement, I'm charged with getting as many middle and high school students engaged with the FEND app as possible in hopes of deterring young people away from the deadly trend of opioid use. Being a hip hop artist, I'm always thinking of ways to use the most popular art form among teens as a way to inspire them to be leaders in their community. So I connected with my friend and TCMS Administrator Greg Quenon, and we organized a day where I could come in and speak and perform to each grade level separately to talk about the app and why it is important. Students who downloaded the app immediately, got to come down and pick up FREE FEND gear such as fanny packs, beanies, t-shirts and more! Preventum provided extra incentives to students who not only downloaded the app, but took the first 4 quizzes! We had multiple students come up to us after the presentation with tearful testimonies on how drugs have impacted their families! It was such a powerful day!"
Almost half the school downloaded the app and began engaging the content the same day. To learn more about the FEND Movement, visit https://wearefend.org/
